Parker House Lives!
Look there was never really any concern this place was gonna get shut down. Like I said its an institution. But nonetheless I was happy when I woke up and saw they were renewed. Its like when you knew the world wasnt really going to end in 2012 with the end of the Mayan Calendar but when the clock struck midnight and we all still survived, you were still relieved.
So thats the good news. The bad news is it sounds like dollar beers on holiday nights may be gone:
SEA GIRT —No one is trying to shut down the Parker House. That was the general consensus at Wednesday night’s council meeting, here, whether residents supported every detail regarding the establishment, or they felt some changes were in order. Mayor Ken Farrell and council members were faced with a standing-room-only meeting, as a crowd of people from all over local communities swept the council chambers and hallways of Sea Girt Elementary School, where council meetings are held. On the agenda was a resolution to approve a seasonal liquor license for Avon Hotel Corp., which is known as the Parker House. The governing body, following a lengthy public hearing and discussion, unanimously approved the liquor license with conditions. Many Parker House patrons, employees both former and current, and members of community groups also turned out to speak. The seasonal liquor license for the Parker House was approved with several conditions. This year, the Parker House will help to alleviate music and noise emanating from the establishment by placing Plexiglass on the west side of the ground level of the building. A two-door system will also be placed off First Avenue to help eliminate sound. As the Parker House has $1 beer specials on Friday evenings, Mr. Sofia offered not to have such specials on Friday nights during holiday weekends.
That kinda sucks. But to be honest holiday weekends are almost unbearably packed now, and I think we’re all at a place where we can pay full price for a beer. So, whatever. If thats whats gotta happen to keep the locals off their back, so be it. As long as Parker House lives on.
